The barque JANE FLAXMAN 1850, 521 tons


On May 2nd 1850, the JANE FLAXMAN left from Adelaide with Captain William Henry Thompson. On May 3rd she was seen drifting on her side towards the beach, without ant sign of human life on board. It appears all hands and 8 passengers were lost. Passengers: Mr Cummings, Mr Langridge, Thomas Dolmer, Mr Little (from the Yatala Smelting Works), Mr John Harvey, Richard Scandlott, James and John Clement. The South Australian REGISTER reporter visited the site on Saturday May 5th and found pieces of the wreck littering the beach for miles.
