HARPLEY 1851

547 tons, from London, and Plymouth September 24th
under the command of Captain Thomas Buckland, arrived Port Adelaide on January 15, 1851
Mr RAVEN (the owner) and Mr Henty and other Tasmanians, having gone to London, are said to be returning by the HARPLEY.

The HARPLEY spoke the VICTORY, bound for New Zealand, in lat. 51º S., and long. 98º E on 2nd January, 1851.

LOSS of the Ship HARPLEY was reported in THE TIMES, October 2nd, 1850, and subsequently declared a HOAX

THE PASSENGER LIST was published in the SOUTH AUSTRALIAN REGISTER newspaper
recorded by the REGISTER'S Shipping Recorder from the original passenger list held by the Captain of the ship.

John Adams, a man of unsound mind, who was working his passage out in the HARPLEY,
jumped overboard on the 24th December; the boat was lowered, but could not find him.
