Names: Should you discover your family name or similar on the lists within it is important to remember that many of the names on Passenger Lists were written as the writer heard them. Many passengers were unable to spell their own names, and often errors resulted from heavy accents, misunderstandings and language barriers. For this reason, it is recommended that you compare the transcriptions within with the scanned images of the Shipping Intelligence lists as published in the newspapers of the day, and any ship manifests or embarkation documents that have survived. The author will not be held responsible for any errors or omissions, and will not make "corrections" to source materials.
