NEW SOUTH WALES:
Ships docking at Australian ports were required to lodge a list of their crew with local customs authorities. It was not unusual for crew lists to be deposited with passenger lists.

The Australian Government organised a Work for the Dole program, where participants created a new National Archives database of migrant passenger lists containing 130,000 names of migrants who came to Australia by ship between 1926 and 1928. The new database can be found at www.naa.gov.au - click on RECORD SEARCH, then search as a guest or registered user and click on passenger index at the top of the screen. The database is certain to be welcomed by researchers and family historians eager to trace their heritage.
